The Boys & Girls Club of the Smoky Mountains took select members from each branch to shop for new shoes thanks to donations to the Santa Fund, the annual fundraiser The Mountain Press holds each year which benefits club members and senior citizens.
“This is awesome! This is what the staff looks forward to, the smiles on the kids’ faces when they get a new pair of shoes,” said Mark Ross, chief professional officer.
“Each kid has $50 to pick out a pair of shoes. Nike is working with us on the price so it is about any shoe they want.”
Many members knew exactly what they wanted, such as one pair of youngsters who were keen on a pair of LeBron James’ shoes. Two other girls decided on the same colorful pair of shoes so they would match.
Nike store manager Chad Daniels is glad they could help.
“For us, especially with Nike, Nike loves helping and giving back to the community so any opportunity we have to impact the youth, by all means we want to make sure since we have the ability we can do so,” Daniels said.
Club members from different branches will be visiting stores in Sevier County this week to select their shoes.
