A Mountain Moment in Sports | Sports

It was this week 10 years ago, on June 27, 2012, that it was announced for the first time ever, MMA would make its way to the Gatlinburg Convention Center. The Fit Factory Fighting Championships (3FC) had run shows in Pigeon Forge for a few years before this, but this show was promised to be their biggest one yet.

Tri-Cities fighters, Adam “Primetime” Townsend from Johnson City, and Travis “The Truth” Shelton from Bristol faced off in the main event of the show in what would be both fighters professional debut.

Townsend would pick up a submission win in round one of the main event, and would go on to accrue a 19-8 record in MMA. For Shelton, it would be his last professional MMA bout.

3FC would continue promoting MMA shows all across East Tennessee before their final show at the Smoky Mountain Convention Center in Pigeon Forge on March 10, 2014.
